What the Password Tools Do

The password tools allow you to change or reset your password, unlock your account, and enroll so that you can use the reset and unlock functions.

Enroll

To use the reset command that allows you to change your password without knowing your current password or to unlock your account, you must enroll. Enroll by supplying answers to several pre-written questions. Then when you use the reset or unlock function, the password system selects some of the questions you selected. You must respond to the questions exactly as you did when you enrolled. Be conscious of how you do or do not capitalize your responses.

Reset

Use reset to change your engineering account password without knowing your current password. To confirm your identity the password tools system presents you with questions from among those you answered when you enrolled. You must respond with the exact answer you used when you enrolled. You can reset your password any time, including before its 180-day life ends.

Unlock

If you try to login to your account and mis-enter your password 15 times in 15 minutes, your account is locked. Use this tool to unlock your account. You must have enrolled and answer the presented questions correctly. You must respond with the exact answer you used when you enrolled.

Change

If you know your account password and want to change it, use the Change tool. You do not need to enroll to use Change. Your account password must be changed every 180 days, but can be changed more often using this function.

Read the password policies. Go to the CSS password tools.
