Why should I use Nero?
Nero is a utility for burning music or data to CD or to DVD using CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW discs. CDs written by Nero can be read on machines with different hardware configurations, so you can take your CD to almost any computer and be able to use it. Nero is also versatile. Nero Express has functions needed for most users’ needs and is very easy to use. Nero Cover Designer is a CD cover design graphics program. Use Nero Wave Editor to edit and create audio files. The Nero Toolkit includes CDSpeed, which provides information about the speed of the CD and DVD drives in the computer; Drive Speed, to adjust the reading speed of the CD drive; and InfoTool, which lets you view the content of an image file. The documentation provides program instructions as well as troubleshooting information and FAQs.

Where is Nero located?
Nero Express can be found in the start menu under Start | All Programs | Utilities | Nero Express. If you want to use the more advanced Nero Burning ROM, go to Start | All Programs | Utilities | Nero | Nero 6 Ultra Edition| Nero Burning ROM.

Known Issues
When copying a CD or during burning, Nero Express sometimes gives an error message that it can’t write a file. What’s happening is that Nero is trying to write a file where it does not have permission. To change where Nero is trying to save its files, start Nero Express. At the bottom of the Nero Express screen, click the button labeled More Nero Express More button. From the additional screen that appears below the current screen, select Configure.

In the Preferences dialogue box that appears, click the tab labeled Cache.

There is one place on the C: drive and several on the D: drive where you can save these files locally for more reliable CD burning. C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp is one choice, where username is your account login ID. If the machine you are using has a D:\ drive, you can save to any folder on the D:\ drive, but Nero cannot save cache files at the root level of D:\.

How to Use Nero
Nero comes with a detailed user guide that gives several examples of ways to use the software. This documentation can be found under Start | All Programs | Utilities | Nero | User’s Guides | Nero Express. On the left hand side, find and click on Getting Started. For the Burning Rom, use Start | All Programs | Utilities | Nero | User’s Guides | Nero Burning ROM.
