1245 SC Henry Electronic Classroom
The
arrangement of the 1245 Henry Electronic Classroom gives students the maximum
desk space and good viewing to the front of the classroom. The CPU towers
are underneath the desks and the flat-panel screens are mounted
on adjustable arms. The only items on the desk are keyboards and optical USB
mice. This arrangement frees up desktop space and makes servicing
the computers more convenient.
Flat-panel LCD screens have a sharper image and they allow for greater visibility
of the task at hand without blocking the view of the front of the classroom.
The combination of the LCD screen and the monitor arm allow users to customize
screen height, distance, and angle as separate elements, while freeing
the desk for notes, a feature useful for classroom students.
In February 2008 CSS replaced the LCD screens with 22" NEC monitors for better viewing.
When 1245 SC is not being used for classes, it is available for use as a lab, like the Elder and Hering labs. Check the schedule to see when the room is being used.
Read this room use policy before requesting use of the Henry Electronic Classroom.
Instructors can use their Engineering account login ID and password or the Instructor account with no password to login to the computer at the front of the room.
Computers in 1245 are replaced every three years. Thus, in summer 2007 the 33 Windows computers in the Henry Electronic Classroom were upgraded to Hewlett Packard XW4400 computers with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 4 GB RAM, LightScribe DVD-RW drive, and NVDIA GeForce 8800 GTS video card. This video card, up to 2 times faster than the previous generation of cards, will perform very quickly with software that displays 3-d graphics (such as ProE and AutoCAD). The D: drive, available for data storage, has been increased to 250 GB. The software available is the same as the computers in the Elder and Hering labs. To access Linux machines via a graphic, X-Windows connection, use NX Client for Windows.
