Webmail News
Webmail is a web-based mail program that runs on any web browser. The advantage of using Webmail is that you can read mail delivered to your engineering account from any machine that has a browser installed. No configuration is required. Webmail always runs in secure mode.
4/27/06 A new version of Webmail, including the Horde framework (3.1.1) and IMP (4.1.1), was installed to fix security holes in the previous version. While installing that new Webmail, CSS fixed a couple other long-standing problems. Webmail now reports correctly the time, date, and location of your previous login. And Webmail is much faster.
Since installing this new version, we have not had reports of problems including attachments or messages when using IE as the browser. If you have such problems, please report them.
7/03/05 Click on Mail in the left panel to
open your Inbox (shown at right). To set Webmail to open directly to your Mail, from this opening screen, click on the Options icon at the top right of the screen. Under Other Information, select Display Options, then change “What application should Engineering Webmail display after login?” to Mail from the pull-down menu.
7/26/03 Webmail has a setting that lets you keep a message but remove the attachment. In Options (for mail) | Message Viewing, check "Show an icon to allow stripping of attachments from messages?" When you view a message with an attachment, you can download the attachment, then click the Trash can icon to strip the attachment from the message. One reason people exceed their mail quota is because their mail store include attachments that are also stored in their home directory. Use Webmail to remove the attachment from the message.
ITS also runs Webmail. You may find their documentation useful: general, address book options including how to create mailing lists, the ITS Webmail FAQ.
