Email Client Programs
CSS supports several email client programs. Read below to choose the e-mail
application that best suits your needs.
If you choose to use a non-supported mail program, read email@engineering for information about the mail server and required settings.
- Outlook
- Runs on Windows computers.
- Available only for faculty and staff.
- Is a combined email and calendar client.
- Calendar items must be read and acted on using Outlook or Outlook Web
Access (OWA).
- OWA provides a web-based view of mail and calendar entries.
- Provides access to University directory to look up email addresses.
- Provides good support for file attachments.
- Can open hypertext links (URLs) from text; can display HTML.
- Information about Outlook. Help is available
within Outlook and on the ITS
pages.

- Thunderbird
- Stand-alone mail client from Mozilla.org.
- Runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.
- Looks like Mozilla Mail, so can be easy to learn to use.
- Provides access to University and College LDAP directories to look up email addresses.
- Provides good support for file attachments.
- Can open hypertext links (URLs) from text; can display HTML.
- Information about Thunderbird. Help is available within Thunderbird.

- Webmail
- Requires a browser; runs in secure mode. Run Webmail.
- Provides access to University and College LDAP directories to look up
email addresses.
- Provides good support for file attachments.
- Can open hypertext links (URLs) from text; displays HTML.
- Does not need to be configured to run, but you may want to set some
of the Webmail options.
