57:015 MATERIALS SCIENCE

Fall 2008

Laboratory Schedule and Due Dates

Laboratory:    The lab portion of this course will consist of five traditional experiments and one independent project, all of which are detailed in the on-line laboratory manual.  The lab reports will follow the form indicated in the manual and are due at the beginning of the next lab period following completion of the experiment.  For the independent project, you will propose a study that involves testing a material for a specific application.  Examples from the past include testing golf balls, epees (fencing swords), automotive tires, bumpers, or whatever interests you.  However, the project must be approved by Prof. Guymon.  For the independent project you must work in teams of 3-4 people with at least two different majors represented in each group.  All use of Materials Science laboratory equipment for these studies must be done with a TA present (for your safety and that of the equipment) and must be done during scheduled laboratory hours only.
