Homework Policy:

a.       Problem solving is the key to successful learning in Mechanics of Deformable Bodies.  Problems are best worked independently.  Collaborative work is acceptable, but no copying is allowed.  A proper solution format is required.  Problems are due one session after the date shown; they are due at the beginning of the lecture.

b.      Student number (Last 4 digits), HW#, and section number must be written on the page.

c.       One problem in each assignment will be graded for 5 points; 5 additional points are awarded if the student worked all assigned problems.  Problems will be returned at the next discussion section.

d.      Late homework is not accepted.

e.       Problem Solving will be covered in lecture and in discussion sessions.

Short Quizzes:

a.       Unannounced quizzes will be given during the discussion session.  They will be graded and returned at the next discussion session.

b.      A single lowest quiz grade will be discarded.

c.       A documented excuse is needed if a quiz is missed, otherwise that grade is zero.

Exams:

a.       Three closed-book “hour” exams will be given during the semester, with no make-up exams.

b.      “Hour” exam solutions will be available after the exam.

c.       One “two-hour” comprehensive closed –book final exam will be given with no make-up exams.

d.      Zero credit will be assigned for a missed exam, unless the student submits a legitimate, documented excuse.
